SHE IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND ASKED THE OPERATOR IF SHE WAS PERMITTED TO SHOOT AT THEM.

On the evening of **December 31, 2011 (New Year's Eve)**, 18-year-old Sarah McKinley was at her home in **Blanchard** with her three-month-old baby when two armed intruders began pounding loudly on her door.

She immediately called 911 and asked the operator if she was permitted to shoot at them. The operator replied: "Do whatever you have to do to protect your baby."

As soon as one of the men forced his way into the house, Sarah fired and killed him. The man was 24-year-old **Justin Martin**.

The second man fled the scene but later turned himself in to the police.

It was later revealed that both men were drug addicts and had entered the house looking for cancer painkillers left behind by McKinley's late husband.

This incident later became a widely discussed topic regarding issues of self-defense and home security.
