Zelenskyy Faces Mounting Pressure to Reinstate Sacked Defence Minister as Protests Spread Across Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is facing one of the most significant political challenges of his presidency after the dismissal of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov sparked nationwide protests and growing calls for his reinstatement. What began as criticism of a cabinet reshuffle has evolved into a broader debate over military leadership, government accountability, and the future direction of Ukraine’s war effort.

The controversy has emerged at a critical moment for Ukraine, which continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion while relying heavily on military innovation, international partnerships, and public unity. His appointment signals that Ukraine intends to continue modernizing its military despite the political controversy surrounding the cabinet reshuffle. 

Nevertheless, analysts warn that even capable new leadership may struggle to rebuild public trust if political divisions continue to deepen.

Ukraine’s leadership crisis is being closely monitored by Western governments that continue providing military, financial, and humanitarian support.
