The Nigerian Army has announced another significant development in its ongoing security operations across Nigeria’s South-East, following the recovery and dignified exhumation of the remains of a late community leader allegedly murdered by members of a criminal gang.
According to a statement released by the military, troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation UDO KA as part of the wider Operation EASTERN SANITY II, uncovered a shallow grave containing the remains of Chief Ibe Anyadu, a respected leader from Aggah Community in Imo State.
The operation followed recent intelligence-driven successes that led to the arrest of several suspects allegedly linked to violent crimes in the region. During interrogation, military authorities said one of the suspects reportedly confessed to participating in the killing of the community leader and volunteered to guide troops to the burial location.
Recovery of the Burial Site
Military officials disclosed that on August 2, 2026, troops, accompanied by the suspect, visited the identified location where the remains were exhumed under appropriate security measures.
The recovery marks an important step in providing answers to the victim’s family and community, while also preserving evidence for ongoing investigations.
Authorities stated that the remains would undergo the necessary identification and forensic procedures before being released for a proper burial in accordance with legal and traditional processes.

The recovery comes shortly after security forces reported the arrest of suspects allegedly connected to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen military weapons.
Operation UDO KA has intensified intelligence-led operations across parts of the South-East, targeting criminal groups responsible for kidnappings, attacks on security personnel, illegal arms possession, and other violent crimes.
Military authorities say continued cooperation from residents has played an important role in gathering intelligence and improving operational success.
